We’ll have to wait a bit longer for The Dark Tower, the Stephen King novel adaptation starring Idris Elba as the Gunslinger.
Sony had set the highly anticipated movie for February 17, 2017, but according to EW, it’s been pushed back till summer.
“Principal photography for the Nikolaj Arcel-directed film wrapped on schedule in late July, but the plan to have a completed film ready to screen six months later proved to be overly ambitious,” says EW. “Now, Sony Pictures and production company MRC have decided post-production can’t be finished in that timeframe and are about to inform theater owners of the change.”

This is bad news for fans that had been eagerly anticipating this promising post-apocalyptic sci-fi Western, but we’d rather they wait until it’s perfect even if that means a few months’ delay. The extra production time not only means an increased focus on visual effects, but also more of a chance for Sony to promote the movie properly, which is never a bad thing.
Before news of the delay, we were expecting the first trailer for the movie in December. We’ll have to wait and see if they’ll have something ready to show us at this time.
The Dark Tower is directed by A Royal Affair‘s Nikolaj Arcel, with Idris Elba as the Gunslinger and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black.
It’s expected to be the first in a series that’ll chronicle Stephen King’s novels about the Gunslinger.
