Marvel and Sony are partnering up for a new Spider-Man video game, allegedly unlike anything you’ve seen before.
At E3 2016, Sony and Marvel announced that a new Spider-Man game is coming from Insomniac Games, in a timely display of brand synergy — and a smart business move, considering how excited everyone is about the reboot movie.
Ever since Tom Holland debuted as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, the world has been crying for more Spidey, and we bet a lot of you are going to be happy about this one!
Not only has the suit been updated to tie in with the movie franchise, but you can forget about reliving his origin story — this Spider-Man will be an “experienced Peter Parker who is more masterful at fighting crime,” according to Engadget.
Check out the trailer below:
With an older, experienced Peter Parker, the game evidently won’t follow the story of the upcoming Marvel movie, which is probably a good thing — video games based on movie plots are usually generic and require players to follow a set path, whereas an expansive, open-world game is much more in tone with the PS4’s other big hits.
The world of Spider-Man’s New York has been begging to be explored for decades, and it seems like the technology is finally here. As much as we love swinging around in LEGO Avengers, it’s just not the same!

We’ve got no official title or release date yet, nor do we know if the latest Peter Parker incarnation Tom Holland will lend his voice to the game (but it seems unlikely).
Here’s the official synopsis released by Marvel Gaming:
“Starring the world’s most iconic Super Hero, Spider-Man PS4 (working title) features the acrobatic abilities, improvisation and web-slinging that the wall-crawler is famous for, while also introducing elements never-before-seen in a Spider-Man game. From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before.”
