The Star Wars timeline was completely revamped when The Force Awakens released, and we finally know where Solo: A Star Wars Story fits into the new timeline.
While it was a given that Solo was going to take place before the events of A New Hope, we weren’t sure exactly where the movie fell in the new Star Wars timeline. Luckily, a new timeline has been released that lets us know exactly where the film falls in the new Star Wars canon.

Del Rey, the publisher who is bringing us all of the new canonical Star Wars books, has an interactive timeline that shows where each book, television show, and film falls on the new timeline. The timeline was recently updated to include Solo, and now we know specifically where the movie falls.
According to the timeline, Solo takes place after the events of the Tarkin novel, and before the events of the Thrawn novel. It also comes before the events of the hit series Star Wars Rebels.
So what does that mean in years? As The Hollywood Reporter explains, Tarkin is set 14 years before the events of A New Hope, and A New Dawn (the Star Wars Rebels novel set after Solo and just before Star Wars Rebels) is 11 years prior. Therefore, Solo would have to take place within those three years, meaning the events of the film will take place when Luke and Leia are about 8 years old.
Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long to learn more about the latest addition to the Star Wars saga. Solo: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters on May 25.
