Watch the first hour of ‘Smash’ season 2’s premiere episode now, 3 weeks early!

NBC’s Smash continues its promotional push before the season starts back up again in three weeks. The first hour of the premiere episode of season 2 has been released online, accompanied with a foxy 48-second promo that aired during last night’s Golden Globes!

Smash returns to NBC Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. EST with a two-hour season premiere and will continue airing Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST throughout the season. However, the first hour of the season 2 premiere episode was released online today! Watch it below:

You may’ve caught the new trailer during the Golden Globes last night. The first thing you’ll notice in the trailer is that Karen (Katherine McPhee) is prominently featured. Perhaps this has something to do with her playing the role of Marilyn in Smash‘s finale? Also notable is the Karen/Jimmy (Jeremy Jordan) makeout scene, followed by a dejected looking Derek (Jack Davenport).

Fans will be happy to see that Eileen’s (Angelica Huston) drink-throwing ways are going to be ever-present in season 2. A scene that has reoccured in both this and the last trailer is that of women in black dresses caressing Derek – this time around, he’s apathetic towards them.

Tom’s (Christian Borle) boyfriend Sam (Leslie Odom Jr.) makes a brief cameo in the trailer, along with Karen’s new roommate Ana (Krysta Rodriguez). Julia (Debra Messing) appears to be deeply concerned – perhaps because of the Michael Swift baby she’s carrying? Also anxious looking are the new musical writers Jimmy and Kyle (Andy Mientus). We recently learned more about their new Rent-like musical Hit List during the TCAs last week.

What are your thoughts on the new trailer? Do you think that Karen has anything to worry about with Ivy (Megan Hilty) lurking behind her back? Or do you think Ivy is going to be able to make quick work of Karen in the new season? A spoiler from an on-set photo revealed just who may be playing Marilyn in Bombshell season 2.
