Director Sam Mendes’ new bond film Skyfall was released just 12 days ago in the U.K. and it’s already become the highest grossing film of 2012.
Apparently, Skyfall is the real deal. Sure, it’s the U.K., where even the Queen was willing to make a cameo in the 2012 Olympic-intro featuring actor Daniel Craig as James Bond, but this is no easy feat. In just 12 days, Skyfall has beat The Dark Knight Rises in total box office in the United Kingdom. The film has reached £57 million in a very short period in the U.K. and has already surpassed $300 million overall before even being released in the US.
Skyfall hits theaters in the U.S. Friday, November 9 – which after the buzz that’s been created by what’s being reported as “The Best Bond Ever” – should give the film a huge boost in ticket sales. Seeing as it’s the 50th anniversary of Bond this year, it feels appropriate that it’s smashing the box office and on its way to being the highest grossing Bond ever.
It’s currently on pace to not only break box office records in 2012, but also Bond-specific records. Counting Skyfall, James Bond has now appeared in 23 films altogether, and it looks like the public is still interested in seeing the sly Brit spy on the big screen.
