Becky Albertalli’s Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda LGBT novel is a favorite around Hypable, and we’re excited Greg Berlanti has decided to take it on!
In October of last year, we expressed our excitement that Simon was getting a big screen adaptation, especially because Fox and Temple Hill were working on the project together.
They brought The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns and both Maze Runner movies to life, so we know they can pull off a good adaptation. Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Greg Berlanti has signed on to direct the project.
If Berlanti’s name sounds familiar, it should: he’s one of the main driving forces behind The CW’s Arrowverse, which includes Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, all of which he’s executive produced.
His directing credits are a little less extensive, but he is known for Life as We Know It (2010).
Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us) co-wrote the script and the project will probably be filmed in early 2017.
The synopsis for Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda reads, “Simon Spier is sixteen and in love. Sure, he has never met the mysterious “Blue” in person, but he’s falling hard and fast for their email love letters. There’s only one problem: Blue is a boy, Simon is gay, and he hasn’t told anyone else.”
