It is the era of the sequel and it seems like America is just asking for more of the same, but come on, who wouldn’t want to catch up with Slimer or Kermit or Spock in the next couple of years?
First things first, Empire magazine (via CBM) ran an interview about the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel, and it seems that after Bill Murray’s now famous shredding of the Ghostbusters 3 script, Dan Aykroyd has revealed that they will simply push on even if it means replacing Murray. He also insists that the Murray’s shredder incident is just a media stunt.
As for the internet rumour that Murray recently shredded a Ghostbusters 3 script and sent it back with a note that said, “No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts”, Aykroyd denied it with vigour.
“Bill Murray is not capable of such behaviour. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work.”
This still means that Murray may end being replaced in the sequel, especially if Aykroyd manages to get Rick Moranis out of retirement.
“If we can get the script to Ghostbusters 3 right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant. The script must be perfect. We cannot release a film that is any less than that. We have more work to do.”
In other news, Kermit the Frog sparked quite a stir in the U.K. when he mentioned that they were “officially” planning on making more Muppets movies. According to Bleeding Cool (via Slashfilm), during an interview with a U.K. talk show, Kermie had this to say.
Kermit: We have been [talking about it], yes, yes. I think that if this movie does as well as we’d like, if people want to see us, sure, we’ll probably do more movies… it’s nothing official… but there’s all this hush-hush Hollywood talk.
Article Continues BelowPiggy: Then make it official.
Kermit: Okay, it’s official.
We don’t know if Kermit the Frog necessarily has the authority to make that kind of a decision, but producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman have discussed it before, so it seems like it might just be a matter of time now!
Finally, Chris Pine had some nice things to say about Star Trek 2 cast-mate Benedict Cumberbatch, and it seems that Sherlock has been doing some studying for the role.
Benedict has got this intensity about him, and he’s obviously extremely intelligent and articulate. His vocal quality is something else. He obviously is, unlike many of us, like, an actually trained actor. He actually studied for it.
So what do you think? Excited to see Cumberbatch play the next Star Trek villain? Will Kermie and Miss Piggy come back to the big screen? Will Bill Murray be replaced for Ghostbusters 3?
