The outrage from fans has saved another show. Netflix has announced they’ve booked a two-hour series finale for Sense8!
The announcement was made on the show’s official Twitter account Thursday afternoon. It comes after Netflix surprisingly cancelled the show on June 1. Check out the letter from creator Lana Wachowski:
“The passionate letters, the petitions, the collective voice that rose up like the first of Sun to fight for this show was beyond what anyone was expecting,” the show’s creator wrote in a tweet. “In this world it is easy to believe that you cannot make a difference; that when a government or an institution or coporation makes a decision, there is something irrevocable about the decision; that love is always less important than the bottom line.”

“But here is a gift from the fans of this show that I will carry forever in my heart: while it is often true those decisions are irreversible, it is not always true.”
The new special will be released “next year.” After that? “If this experience has taught me anything, you NEVER know,” Lana wrote.
This comes as great news to fans who campaigned hard to get Sense8 back, especially when Netflix released a statement saying they’ve thought long and hard but simply “couldn’t make it work.”
Since the news of Sense8‘s cancellation there has been an outpouring of love and thanks for the show, some of which you can read right here on Hypable, and arguments about why a two-hour special was completely plausible.
Hopefully this new two-hour special will help bring some much-needed closure to the Sense8 community. There are still plenty of things left un-answered and huge cliffhangers that need to be resolved, so we’re excited that we will now officially get an answer to at least some of them. And we’ll finally find out what happened to Wolfgang!
