Eddie Brock is faced with a fight of humanity versus symbiote in the second trailer for Marvel’s newest antihero, Venom.
Reactions were quite mixed after the first look at Sony and Marvel’s Venom. Some were unsure of how they felt about Venom’s look, and others weren’t sure how they felt about Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Eddie Brock. So in the newest trailer released for the film, we not only get a much clearer picture of what to expect from Venom, but we also get a better look into Eddie Brock a the film’s troubled protagonist.

As an investigative reporter, Brock explains in the trailer’s voiceover that he constantly finds himself questing and uncovering things “the government might not be looking at.” One such discovery seems to be Dr. Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) and his work with the powerful symbiote. As it always happens with these sorts of things, what starts as simple investigative journalism soon gets out of control as Brock finds himself “taken” by the symbiote.
Even if you are only familiar with Venom through his appearance in Sam Raimi’s infamous Spider-Man 3, you’ll know that the symbiote isn’t something you can easily just wash off. It’s something that consumes you entirely, taking control and offering you power. For Brock, not only does the symbiote make him stronger, it’s something that will ultimately save his life.
This film is the beginning of the Spider-Man universe for Sony, which will be different from Tom Holland’s MCU Spider-Man as it will focus on the villains Spider-Man faces rather than Peter Parker. Because of this, Tom Holland isn’t expected to make an appearance in Venom, but there are still conflicting reports over whether or not he’ll show up in the film.
It’s an interesting take on building up a comic book movie franchise, and we’re excited to see where this new Spider-Man universe goes. It will all kick off when Venom hits theaters on October 5.
