Life is shaping up to be the scientifically accurate version of Alien — watch the first trailer now!
While we nervously wait for news on Deadpool 2, we can at least look forward to seeing Ryan Reynolds in Life, a new space thriller written by Deadpool’s own Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Also starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Hiroyuki Sanada, the first trailer reveals the Alien-meets-Gravity vibe of the movie, showing a crew aboard a space station discovering what appears to be a benevolent life form, which is quickly revealed to be a terrifying monster:
The movie follows a six-member crew of the International Space Station, who according to Wikipedia are “tasked with studying a sample from Mars that may be the first proof of extra-terrestrial life, which proves more intelligent than ever expected.”
It’s one of many recent sci-fi flicks exploring a similar theme. It’s probably safe to say that recent technological developments in cinematography has propelled us into a golden age of intense character dramas set in space, with Gravity, Interstellar and The Martian leading the charge, and Passengers, Arrival and The Space Between Us soon to follow.
Life looks like it’ll be in the darker spectrum (despite the fact that it’s basically a Team Deadpool production), showing the psychological trauma that results from being locked in close quarters with an unbeatable foe.
