Marvel golden boys Joe and Anthony Russo are swapping superheroes for street gangs, remaking Walter Hill’s The Warriors for Paramount TV and Hulu.
Via Deadline, the Russo Brothers are set to put a new spin on The Warriors, a 1979 gangster drama by Walter Hill. (The movie was originally an adaptation of the Sol Yurick novel of the same name.)
The one-hour drama series will be adapted for Paramount TV and Hulu.

The Warriors movie was set in 1970s’ New York City, and followed a street gang — The Warriors, surprisingly — who found themselves hunted by warring gangs who believed they were responsible for the death of a charismatic leader.
The Sol Yurick novel was set in the 1960s, but followed roughly the same story. The synopsis for the book reads:
“Every gang in the city meets on a sweltering July 4 night in a Bronx park for a peace rally. The crowd of miscreants turns violent after a prominent gang leader is killed and chaos prevails over the attempt at order. The Warriors follows the Dominators making their way back to their home territory without being killed. The police are prowling the city in search of anyone involved in the mayhem. An exhilarating novel that examines New York City teenagers, left behind by society, who form identity and personal strength through their affiliation with their “family,” The Warriors weaves together social commentary with ancient legends for a classic coming-of-age tale.”
Deadline says the Russo Brothers’ Warriors drama will “honor the original film while adding its own unique brand of grit, pulp, sex and violence.”
We just hope they honor the aesthetic of the original film:
