An awesome new poster reveals that Rogue One wildcard Saw Gerrera will soon appear on Star Wars Rebels!
The revelation comes from the Star Wars podcast Rebels Reactions, who received the very telling poster at a Toys ‘R Us in Florida. The poster prominently features Saw Gerrera (who appears radically more healthy than he does in Rogue One!) along with the words “Save the rebellion. Save the dream.”
In addition to the rebel crew, the poster also features the now-barren planet of Geonosis in the bottom left corner. Sabine also seems to have gotten another jetpack — you go, Mando!
Saw Gerrera’s most prominent appearance in Star Wars canon is his role as the anti-Imperial partisan in Rogue One, but the character has a long history in the galaxy. Saw first showed up in an arc of The Clone Wars animated series, and was revealed to be an ally of the Erso family in the novel Catalyst.
The Saw Gerrera who appears on Star Wars Rebels seems not to have suffered the devastating injuries that plague him in Rogue One. He is also rocking the bald look, suggesting that there is still quite some time between Star Wars Rebels and the events of the most recent film.
Still, the inclusion of Geonosis hints that there may indeed be a story link between the animated series and the most recent film. As revealed in Catalyst, a good deal of the Death Star’s construction took place above Geonosis. And last season, Star Wars Rebels revealed that the planet seemed to have been completely decimated.
So suffice it to say that there should be plenty of mystery when Star Wars Rebels returns in January. The two-part episode is titled “Ghosts of Geonosis.”
“The crew returns to Geonosis in search of a missing rebel team sent to investigate suspicious activity there, and are surprised by what they find,” the synopsis says.
Between Saw Gerrera, Maul’s persistent insanity, and the promise of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the back half of Star Wars Rebels season 3 is taking on a very intriguing shape indeed.
The Star Wars Rebels midseason premiere, “Ghosts of Geonosis,” airs Saturday, Jan. 7 on Disney XD.
