Riverdale is returning for more weird mysteries in season 4. Here’s everything we know about the next season, so far, including when it’ll come out.
Riverdale season 3 was like one long Gryphons & Gargoyles quest, with action, danger, romance, and even an ascension. Between the Farm, the game, and flashbacks, the casino nights and the drug wars, you never knew what was going to happen, week to week.
If anything, the Riverdale season 3 finale has set us up for an even crazier season 4, and we can’t wait. Here’s everything we know, so far, about the next season of Riverdale.
‘Riverdale’ season 4 premiere date
When does Riverdale season 4 come out? We don’t have to wait too much longer! Riverdale season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, October 9 on the CW at 8pm ET.
What can we expect to see in ‘Riverdale’ season 4?
After facing their own personal quest from the Gargoyle King, or should we say Penelope Blossom, the core four are as tight as they ever have been. Jughead and Betty finished off a strong season even stronger, and Archie and Veronica found their way back to each other, in the end.
Unfortunately, we already know that the camaraderie isn’t here to stay. The Riverdale season 3 finale ended with a flash forward to the gang’s senior year spring break, which had Betty, Veronica and Archie all burning their clothing and vowing to go their separate ways. Yikes!
We’re guessing season 4 will spend a lot of time working toward this flash forward, perhaps playing out in dual timelines. Eventually, we’ll figure out what led them to that vow, and more importantly, what happened to Jughead.
It’s highly possible that it has something to do with the revenge that Hiram Lodge is brewing from behind the bars of the prison that he owns. Veronica and Archie may have gotten one over on him, but he’s definitely not going down without a fight. He’s already had Hermione arrested, and we know he has even more up his sleeve for his daughter.
That being said, the core four’s predicament could also have something to do with the Farm. They allegedly “ascended” at the end of Riverdale season 3, but we really have no idea what that means.
If they’re actually gone, it means that Alice, Polly and Fangs are gone too, and we just can’t accept that. Especially since we now know that Alice and FP’s son, Charles, is alive and well. So well, in fact, that he was even working with Alice to take the Farm down for the entire season.
Penelope Blossom managed to escape after unleashing her cruel and unusual brand of torture on Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica, but it looks like another Blossom has stepped in to take her place. We have absolutely no idea what Cheryl is doing with Jason’s body, but we know we’ll find out in Riverdale season 4, and we truly can’t wait for the madness.
‘Riverdale’ season 4 wishlist
Here are the seven biggest questions we have for the next chapter of Riverdale.
Who is the OG Gargoyle King?
The Riverdale season 3 finale finally revealed the identity of the Gargoyle King. Penelope Blossom introduced the game to the town, using Chic as the man behind the mask, to enact her revenge. She wanted to spite the town that allowed her to be sold as a child bride and then turned their back on her.
However, we still don’t know who the original Gargoyle King that invited the Midnight Club to ascension night was. Penelope was simply inspired by them and decided to continue their legacy, years later. I don’t believe the threat of the Gargoyle King will truly be gone until we know where it originated.
What happened to the Farm?
The last time we saw Edgar and Evelyn Evernever, they were finalizing their preparations for the Farm to “ascend.” Whatever that means, apparently it worked, because Kevin was alone amongst a lot of piles of white clothing at the end of the Riverdale season 3 finale.
My first thought is that the Evernevers made the Farmies drink some kind of poison so they could skip off to the next batch of organs, but that’s almost too painful to consider since Alice, Polly and Fangs would have been among them. They can’t all be dead, right? Also, what did Kevin witness, and why did somebody have to stay? Season 4 still has some serious questions to answer regarding the Farm.
What’s going on with Jason Blossom’s body?
First of all, who dug up the body, and why? We know Edgar Evernever had a hand in it, since he told Cheryl that he did it because she “had a void,” but I can’t imagine he actually did the deed himself.
When we saw Polly portraying Betty, I assumed another actor must have been pretending to be Jason for Cheryl, but perhaps it was just his body the entire time. Hopefully the closing scene of Cheryl speaking to Jason’s body was just another instance of her being under Edgar’s power, and she hasn’t actually gone insane at the end of Riverdale season 3.
What is Hiram planning?
It was obvious that Hiram wasn’t going down without a fight when he was thwarted by Veronica, but we still don’t know what lengths he’s willing to go to for revenge. He’s already had Hermione arrested, and he mentioned that Veronica has something in store for her next.
All we know is that some evidence has been planted, and now we have to let the chips fall where they may. It’s kind of tough to keep the guy who owns the prison, and almost all of Riverdale, locked up, so we definitely haven’t seen the last of Hiram.
Where has Charles been?
We learned in the Riverdale season 3 finale that Alice had been a spy at the Farm the entire time, and that she was working with/for her son, Charles! How long has she known about him? Who sought who out? Will this bring Alice and FP back together? There are so many questions surrounding this relationship, so it’s bound to be a big part of the story in Riverdale season 4.
What happened during spring break of senior year?
The gang’s cute milkshake toast was interrupted by a flash forward scene of Archie, Veronica and Betty burning their clothing (including Jughead’s hat) and vowing to go their separate ways! This was obviously the biggest cliffhanger of the finale, and will definitely be a huge portion of season 4. Maybe they’ll even play the season How to Get Away With Murder style and tell the story in two different timelines.
Where is Penelope Blossom?
Hal is dead and Chic is in jail, but Penelope Blossom managed to get away. If she’s still out there, I’m sure she’ll continue her vendetta against the town, so she’ll have to come back. My best guess is that Hiram is helping her hide. We saw him meet with the Gargoyle King, so he may have known her secret all along.

The trailer for Riverdale season 4 is taking the series to a scarier place than we’ve ever seen it before. Talk of their “biggest fears,” creepy crime scene photos, and a town-wide search party for Jughead are just a few of the juicy focal points of the trailer.
