After major backlash from audiences, Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. have compromised on reworking and revamping the sound during Bane’s dialogue, improving in its audibility. Update: At this point, all sources point to this news being untrue.
With the first 6 minutes of one of 2012’s most anticipated films having hit theaters before select IMAX screenings of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, audiences had 2 distinct things to say about the prologue… “It was incredible” and “what the heck was Bane saying the entire time?” Well now it seems that Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. have come to a compromise, having altered the sound to make Bane, played by Tom Hardy, easier to understand.
A source has informed Collider that new soundtracks for the prologue have been sent to theaters to be shown with M:I Ghost Protocol, and have been met with excitement.
“A friend of mine who is an IMAX projectionist told me they received a new soundtrack for the Dark Knight Rises prologue. He said it’s now a combo soundtrack with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, but the cool thing about this is that they’ve cleaned up the dialogue. They’ve gone in and lowered the background noise of the plane and other things, thus making Bane’s dialogue clearer and more understandable. He asked some people after they left the movie if they could understand Bane and they all said they had no issue understanding him, and were excited for the movie.”
When reactions to the prologue first started hitting the internet, Christopher Nolan said he wasn’t opposed to “altering the sounds slightly” but he refused to “rework it completely.” As Nolan’s Dark Knight series is rooted in reality, his stubbornness in the matter is understandable, as it would be difficult to understand someone through the mask that Bane is wearing. Though I didn’t have as much of a problem with Bane’s dialogue as others, I’m glad Nolan and Warner Bros. could come to this compromise.
Are you happy that they’ve improved Bane’s dialogue? Let us know!
Update: As it turns out, all sources point to this news being untrue. Though still waiting to hear back from Warner Bros., IGN has contacted a few IMAX executives, as well as an IMAX theater showing The Dark Knight Rises prologue who reportedly have no knowledge of the reworked soundtrack.
Though what was reported seems like the sort of thing Christopher Nolan had in mind when he said he wasn’t opposed to “altering the sounds slightly.” We have contacted Warner Bros. for comment, but at this point nothing has been officially confirmed or denied.
