Revenge season 4, episode 1, “Retaliation,” aired last night! Check out our recap to find out what happened with our favorite South Hampton residents.
Last night on Revenge, we start out with Victoria and Lyman fleeing the justice building. As it turns out they lost the case “rather quickly,” as Natalie later points out. Natalie is also throwing the annual Fourth of July party this year and invites Victoria to join. This should be interesting…
Emily goes to the docks to confront her father about making the front page of the Enquirer. Now everyone knows he’s dating a Grayson, but he assures Emily that she’s only a Grayson by name. Jack then pops up from below the boat in another awkward moment for the two.
It hurts us to see Jack hurting for Emily, but she tells him that she doesn’t want things to be “like this” between them. Easier said than done, apparently.
During their couples massage, Nolan and Louise dish about the Emily/Ben/Jack love triangle. Nolan thought that Ems would be with Jack now that she’s able to move, on but she’s feeling Ben at the moment. Louise also fills Nolan in on Jack’s new bartending gig.
Ben meets with Margaux at her office and calls her bluff. She shows him video footage of his ex-wife and threatens her life unless he gives her what she asked for. He reluctantly hands over an envelope and it’s revealed to be the birth certificate of Amanda Clarke. Oh, Margaux, you naughty girl!
Cut to our Wonder Twins already working on a plan because Ben is now part of the group and filled them in on Margaux’s blackmail. They gave Margaux a fake birth certificate and it’s only a matter of time until she finds out.
Ben shows up a bit late and Nolan quips, “Betrayal: you always gotta give yourself an extra 15 minutes.” They were able to see the video footage of the ex-wife because of Nolan’s “Nolbands” that Ben had hanging on his shirt. They discover April’s location and Ben tells Ems that he needs to do this on his own.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have another baby Carl sighting! Although it’s a bit heart-breaking because Jack has to report back to tending the bar and he asks the sitter to care for Carl again.
A bit later Jack and Carl visit Nolan and Louise and Nolan once again offer Jack a job at the Beach Club. Louise sweetens the deal by saying they can use one of the extra rooms as a daycare, that way he won’t be away from Carl all the time. So sweet! How can Jack say no to that? Note: he doesn’t.
Lyman pops in on Louise to apologize and make amends. Nolan isn’t sure about it, but Louise says he’s turned a new leaf and Lyman is now staying with them. They get into an argument because she didn’t talk to Nolan first and he keeps “losing” his wedding ring. Yep, this sounds like an average married couple.
The Fourth of July celebration is in full swing at the Beach Club. Jack’s tending bar while Nolan sulks at the bar about the fight with his wife. Louise and Lyman sit in the corner and it seems as if Lyman is trying to win the Brother of the Year trophy. He tells Louise that if Nolan wants him out of the house then he should leave and Louise wishes Nolan would see this side of him.
Jack gets off early to take Carl to see the fireworks but gets pulled over on the way home by his former cop pals. Seems they’re a bit ticked that he left the department and say there was a tip of a drunk driver in the area.
Then what we’ve been waiting for happens. Margaux meets with Lyman outside the Beach Club. Aha! She hired him to get close to Nolan and Louise so he can find dirt on Nolan. He now has a key to his house, but Margaux wants Lyman to dig deeper.
As Ben is driving to catch April, Emily stops him in the middle of the road and insists on joining, thanks in part to Nolan’s little chat from earlier. They stake out at the front of the diner and finally April shows up in the morning. Ben heads out as Emily sleeps and just as she wakes up and heads inside, she witnesses April smack Ben across the face. Pretty hard, we might add.
They try to warn April that Wes is coming after her again and she isn’t having it. However, they must have done some convincing because when Wes comes barging through the door and finds Emily instead of April, he goes flinging his crowbar around like crazy. Ben and Emily restrain him, though.
The local police show up and take Wes away and tell April that he’ll be gone for a looong time. She thanks Emily and Ben and things seem to be going too smoothly.
David and Natalie seem to have been going steady for a few dates now and this particular night he cooked her meatloaf. She convinces him to join her at the Fourth of July party and he reluctantly agrees. Then Victoria creepily shows up at the back door to “warn” him that Natalie bought a house in California and she’s using him. He doesn’t buy it.
Before the party, David is upstairs with Natalie as she finishes getting ready. She asks him to grab some Advil from her purse because she’s clumsy and keeps bruising from it.
Down at the party the press is ready to get the scoop on their relationship. As David is away making them drinks, Natalie makes a few comments about David’s well-being so the press is able to spin a story.
She brings David upstairs later on and rips her own dress and yells David’s name to stop. He realizes she’s trying to set him up and that’s when she confesses to him that she was in love with Conrad. He was to give her his money, but when those plans fell through she went after his father instead and forced him to sign everything over to her.
Thank goodness Victoria was around the corner (how often do we get to say those words?) and she recorded Natalie’s whole story. She tells Natalie to sign over everything to Victoria or she’ll give the recording to the authorities.
It’s always blackmail with this lot.
Speaking of, Lyman is stealing intel off of Nolan’s secret computer when Louise interrupts and grabs the flash drive. She goes outside to throw it over the ledge and there is a scuffle. Lyman grabs the drive but falls over the ledge.
Great, more leverage for Margaux’s revenge.
Margaux’s hitman/companion guy (do we know his name yet?) informs her that Wes was arrested earlier in the evening. Turns out, they tipped the police on Jack’s “drunk driving.” Now she just awaits info from Lyman…
Nolan comes home after the party and apologizes to Louise. He tells her that Lyman can stay if she wants and she tells Nolan that’s good, because Lyman is sleeping in the guest bedroom!
We end with Jack getting put in the back of the police cruiser because he blew a .14, meaning he’d be completely hammered, which he obviously isn’t. Emily and Ben just happen to drive by as this happens and the other cop grabs baby Carl!
