Sony has confirmed the PS5 release date, along with the console’s name, and some details about the controller bundled with the system.

Start saving up your pennies because the PS5 release date hits in the Holiday 2020 season. Likely releasing in November 2020, the PS5 will change the face of gaming with a mega-powerful processor and lineup of AAA console exclusive titles.

Although fans and reporters have been calling Sony’s next system the PlayStation 5, the April announcement of the console failed to mention the name of the next PlayStation.

However, according to the most recent update to the PlayStation blog, the “next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5.” The blog continues that “there’s much more to share about PlayStation 5 in the year ahead,” meaning that the backward gaming compatibility and SSD of the console are only the tip of the iceberg.

The PS5’s controller will focus on haptic responses, as opposed to the standard rumble technology in the previous PlayStation controllers. Sony details how the haptic responses will allow you to tell the difference between crashing a car into a wall and tackling an opponent on a football field. Further, the PS5 controller will allow you to tell the difference between running through mud or grass, states Sony.

Another impressive feature of the PS5 controller is that of its adaptive triggers. The controller’s L2 and R2 buttons will function with different levels of resistance, depending on what is happening in-game. For instance, if a player is drawing a bow and arrow, they will feel a specific resistance to relate the experience of doing that action in real life. These two controller technology elements are bound to immerse players more into the game, and we couldn’t be any more excited.

Now that we have the PS5 release date, it’s only a matter of time until we get a first look at what the console’s hardware build will consist of. Keep tuned to Hypable for more updates on Sony’s next-gen gaming system.
