Fans of Percy Jackson will recognize Brandon T. Jackson as the actor who plays our favorite satyr, Grover. But Jackson is now closing in on a new gig — a starring role in a TV show based on the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.

The original series was a trilogy of films all starring Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a Detroit police officer who goes to Beverly Hills to investigate a murder. The films, which began in the mid 1980s and finished in the early ’90s, were an action/comedy hybrid that helped launch Murphy’s career.

Now, CBS is rebooting the franchise and making it into a television show. The show will continue on from where the third film left off, following Axel’s son, who is also a police officer. The show will have a similar tone, combining action and comedy, and will still feature a “fish-out-of-water” storyline.

Axel’s son, named Aaron, will also be trying to get out from under his father’s fame and earn a name for himself. Murphy will be in the pilot episode, as his character is now the chief of police, and have a guest role throughout the season. Murphy is also an executive producer on the project.

According to HumorMill, via Collider, Jackson is currently in final negotiations to play the role of Aaron Foley. He seems like a great fit for the show, as he was one of the funniest characters in Percy Jackson and appears to be more than capable of taking on a physical role in a show like this.

What does this mean for the Percy Jackson movies? Well, there’s no word about whether or not there will be an adaptation of The Titan’s Curse, the third book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. That will be dependent on how well the second movie does when it hits theatres in August of next year.

But if there is a third movie, this could potentially cause scheduling problems. However, actors starring in television shows often make room for additional projects. We’ll worry about that when the time arises.

In the meantime…
