After a long stretch of comedies and dramas, it was announced today that Owen Wilson will star in the upcoming action film, The Coup.

The Coup will be directed by John Erick Dowdle (Devil). Dowdle also co-wrote the script with his brother, Drew Dowdle.

Deadline gives a brief synopsis:

The film is described as an intense thriller centered on an American family that moves to Southeast Asia and finds themselves embroiled in a violent coup where rebels mercilessly attack the city. Wilson plays the father in a film that has the tone of Taken, and puts him in action mode for the first time since Behind Enemy Lines.

What do you think of Wilson returning to an action movie for the first time since 2001? Are you interested in seeing the movie?
