During the Outlander panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, it was announced that Outlander season 1, volume 2 will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on September 29, 2015.
Wondering about the first half of the season? The Outlander season 1, volume 1 Blu-ray has been available for several months.
Just one of the extras included on this new Blu-ray is a gag reel of the cast from all of season 1 as seen below. Filming in the Highlands of Scotland is hard work, but as you can see from the footage below, everyone has a really good sense of humor for when things don’t quite go according to the plan.
There are some things that you’d see in any standard Blu-ray outtake video like flubbed lines and falling over (there’s lots of falling over), but some things are unique to Outlander like goats that eat your costume as you try to say your lines.
Some of the more memorable scenes include Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire Randall Fraser) proving that although their romance may be fairy tale perfect on screen, real life filming of that fairy tale can be messy.
Claire and Jamie’s first take at a wedding kiss resulted in a long line of spittle connecting the two star’s mouths. Obviously it didn’t make the final cut that aired on Starz.
Another memorable moment was when Claire had to stitch up Jamie’s wounded side, an iconic shot that is used in the title sequence. Apparently, the prosthetic was so good that Caitriona Balfe had a little trouble discerning where the prosthetic ended and Sam Heughan’s skin started. You can hear her say, “Oh shit! Is that real skin? After jabbing Heughan.”
The flubs aren’t just Claire and Jamie centric. Bill Paterson, who plays Ned Gowan, ends up with an actor calling him by his real name, and he ends up doing a bit of a comedy routine around it.
All in all the Blu-ray looks like great fun, and should be a great companion piece to the already released volume 1.
