Netflix has announced that Orange is the New Black is coming to a close.
The streamer’s second ever original series (House of Cards being their first) will end with season 7 in 2019. The news was announced via a tweet from the show’s official account. The cast shot an announcement video in which they spread the news:
Warning: This may make you cry. The Final Season, 2019. #OITNB pic.twitter.com/bUp2yY0aoK

Those who paid close attention during OITNB season 6 may’ve realized that the drama was coming to a close — not only was Piper released from prison, but she also made a comment about writing a memoir about her experience. In the real world, the TV show is based on the book of the same name by Piper Kerman.
Orange is the New Black premiered in July 2013 and quickly became a big hit. It was created by Weeds mastermind Jenji Kohan. I’ve enjoyed the show over the years, but it definitely feels like it’s time for it to end.
The Netflix Original Series that preceded OITNB, House of Cards, will be ending later this year when the Claire-led final season is released.
