Thanks to American fans with scanners, we now have all the material released in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, following the cover reveal posted several days ago.

The first feature details EW’s set visit, in which showrunners Adam Horowitz and Ed Kitsis discuss bringing the story of Peter Pan and Captain Hook to Once Upon a Time, and the actors talk about how their characters are changing this season.
Emilie de Ravin, for example, talks about Belle’s struggle to accept Rumpelstiltskin. “Whoever you’re with rubs off on you,” she says. “It’s going to be a struggle for Belle to keep herself who she is.”
And Colin O’Donoghue talks about joining the show as the enigmatic Captain Hook, saying, “He’s more charming than the other Hooks. He’s more manipulative, willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, and less outwardly evil.” And because he doesn’t have magic, “he has to rely on his wits to do his great evils,” says Goodwin, chiming in.
Further, the producers hint that we’ll be journeying to a world visually unlike anything we’ve seen before. The producers are very keen to expand the Once universe beyond Disney, and we’ll also eventually be seeing the world of Oz.
Another shocking gem revealed in the article: Prince Charming was originally supposed to die in the pilot! But much like in Lost, the main male protagonist would live to take a central role in the story – and much like in Lost, we’re very happy about this fact!
There is also a lengthy feature focusing on the costumes and sets featured in the show, and we get to hear from production and costume designers Michael Joy and Eduardo Castro, as well as see design sketches for major characters like Snow, Charming and Regina.
EW has also released a separate interview with Robert Carlyle, where he talks about the inspiration for Rumpelstiltskin, where he reveals that his character is 300 years old, and says, “He’s layered so much he’s lost himself.” He also reveals that as Mr. Gold, “I try to keep him absolutely neutral. I almost do him in slow motion. It’s the exact opposite of what I’m doing with Rumpelstiltskin. He resonates calm. There’s not many times as an actor you get to play the opposite ends of the scale.”
These articles are all well worth a read, especially if you’re feeling bored waiting for tonight’s Once Upon a Time episode!
