No curses were enacted for this announcement! Once Upon a Time will see a sixth season, with the renewal announcement arriving just before season 5’s return.
Some shuffling may be happening among the senior ABC staff, but Once Upon a Time is staying put for season 6. After achieving a milestone with 100 episodes, the series is in the best shape yet. Season 5 took a darker path, gearing their storytelling to not-so-happy endings. Where will season 6 take us? We’ll have to wait and see.
Co-creator and executive producer, Adam Horowitz, celebrated the announcement with a tweet thanking the fans.
Thrilled to announce that #OnceUponATime has been picked up for season 6! Thank you ABC and thank you to the most extraordinary fans ever!

As the season 5 mid-season premiere approaches, a new world awaits our heroes. The Underworld, ruled by Hades is a unique place. Not only does it serve as a visitor’s center for those who have plenty of unfinished business following their deaths, but it is also not the worst place for a soul to be trapped. What does all of this mean for our ill-fated pirate, Killian Jones?
Check out our Once Upon a Time spring premiere review that teases what to expect when our heroes head to the Underworld.
Once Upon a Time season 5, episode 12, “Souls of the Departed,” airs this Sunday, March 6 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
