Actress Odeya Rush is heading to the big screen for another book-to-film adaptation.
Deadline reports that Odeya Rush has officially joined the cast of Dumplin’.
The upcoming comedy is based off of Julie Murphy’s 2015 young adult novel of the same name and centers around a girl named Willowdean (Patti Cake$ Danielle Macdoonald), a confident, plus-sized teen whose nickname is Dumplin.
In an effort to spite her mother, Willowdean enlists in a local beauty pageant, and subsequently inspires a crop of outcast teens to enlist with her.
Rush is set to play Willowdean’s best friend, Ellen ‘El’ Dryver in the upcoming film, who complicates the nature of their friendship after she decides to join the pageant as well.
For her part, Rush is no stranger to book-to-film adaptations. Back in 2014, the 20-year-old actress starred opposite Pirates 5 star Brenton Thwaites in the big screen adaptation of Lois Lowry’s The Giver.
Additionally, the actress also starred opposite Jack Back and 13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette in 2015’s Goosebumps, so it’s clear she’s got a lot of experience when it comes to working on films centered around beloved books.
Rush and MacDonald join Jennifer Aniston, who was previously cast in Dumplin’ as Willowdean’s mother, a woman also happens to be a former pageant queen herself.
There’s currently no set release date for Dumplin’, but now that casting is well under way, we’re hoping we’ll hear of one soon!
Dumplin’ is set to be directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal), and adapted for the big screen by scriptwriter Kristin Hahn.
