The first full Noah trailer was released today and shows off Darren Aronofsky’s visually stunning take on the biblical tale.
Russell Crowe stars as Noah in the film telling the story of one of the Bible’s most well-known figures and his epic ark built to survive an apocalyptic flood. Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, and Ray Winstone fill out the main cast.
The story centers around the title character’s mission to save his family after seeing visions of an inevitable apocalypse. Aronofsky and Crowe have promised an edgier take on the Noah’s Ark story.
Crowe hinted at a more gruff, anti-heroic Noah than people might expect, and from what we’ve seen so far, the film looks more like an action epic than a typical retelling.

Biblical tales often translate into box-office success (i.e. The Passion of the Christ) and Paramount hopes to continue that tradition which may mean making some tweaks to Aronofsky’s final cut. The director and the studio have reportedly been having creative differences over what should be released come Spring.
Pre-screenings have been getting mixed reviews from audiences, especially those who identify as Christian and felt the film did not stick closely enough to the source material.
While the director seems reluctant to stray from his vision, the studio is reportedly hoping to make changes to the film’s climactic third act to satisfy audiences.
We’ll have to wait and see who wins out in the end, but until then, we can just be excited that Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, and Anthony Hopkins are all in the same movie.
Noah is expected to hit theaters on March 28, 2014.
