Super Smash Bros. fan Chris Taylor wanted to play the latest Smash game before its release in December because he was afraid he wouldn’t make it until then.
Taylor went by @SpookyWoobler on Twitter, and had amassed a following of over 14,000 per publication. According to his Reddit comments, Taylor had “a semi-rare bone cancer called Osteosarcoma.” Taylor had survived cancer three times over, but after seeing little to no positive results with the latest treatments, had decided to no longer pursue treatment.
Taylor’s Twitter thread stating how far away December was “for someone who is already bedridden” gained over 34,000 retweets. And then, Nintendo noticed.
December is a long way away for someone who is already bedridden…

Nintendo brought over the E3 demo build over to Taylor’s house for him and some of his closest friends to play. Taylor stated that Nintendo chose to bring a Switch with the E3 demo on it as opposed to letting him keep it because of the demo’s high value and risk of being stolen. The pictures of Taylor’s group playing the game say a thousand words, and then some.

Sadly, news came around in the past day that Taylor had passed away “surrounded by friends and family when it happened in the comfort of his own home.” Taylor’s brother took to Reddit to share the sad news, and to thank the gaming community for giving his late brother the gift of playing one of his favorite video game series one last time.
We send our condolences to Taylor’s family and friends in what must be a very difficult time. The world can be a scary and mean place, but when we ban together, sometimes a little magic can happen. Thank you, Nintendo, for being a standup company.
