Two actors who were late to the game, The Newsroom‘s Terry Crews (Lonny) and Margaret Judson (Tess) recently discussed last night’s season finale. What did they have to say about their characters and their experiences working with Aaron Sorkin? Warning: Spoilers for the season finale.
We begin with former NFL player Terry Crews, currently portraying bodyguard Lonny Church. In a Q&A with HBO Connect, Crews answered questions regarding his working relationship with Jeff Daniels, and his experiences playing Lonny.
Specifically, when asked if Lonny would save Will’s life next season, Crews responded:
Let’s say that Lonny serves a great purpose on this show, and it’s being set up very well by Aaron. He is a master story weaver and Lonny’s purpose will be painfully evident before this season is over.
As we now know from the season finale, he was referring to the reintroduction of the death-threat plot line which assures Lonny will be sticking around for a while yet. Do you think we could see Lonny saving Will’s life in season 2, or has he already had his moment to shine?
Next we move to Margaret Judson, who, as we reported earlier, originally worked as an MSNBC research assistant. In a recent interview, Judson describes Aaron Sorkin’s hands-on approach:
He writes every word of dialogue and is also on set for every rehearsal. He’s so hands-on and really excellent at making it clear what he wants. There’s never a lack of direction and am never in the dark about what is supposed to be going on.
Did you know, Judson also worked as a consultant to the writing team before she signed on as Tess? For inside into this and the rest of her experiences as a first-time actor, be sure to check out the rest of the interview here.
