Keegan Allen has been in Pretty Little Liars since Season 1 where he portrays the misunderstood Toby Cavanaugh. In a recent interview, Allen discusses his character, working with co-star Troian Bellisario, and many of the show’s secrets.
Starry Mag reports:
Q. Can you talk a little bit about the evolution that we’ve gotten to see your character Toby go through throughout the past two seasons?
A. The character’s commitment to understanding throughout the first season has been really, really interesting. I really like playing him, he’s a really compassionate guy and through everything, all of the really bad things that have happened to him, he’s been able to maintain this nature that’s really forgiving to everything. He’s had this big finger pointed at him for a murder that he wasn’t responsible for and he still finds it in his heart that he’s able to be compassionate and loyal to the people that are close to him. He’s not a mean guy at all, whereas others who would be put in that position might not be able to handle it, but he’s like a genuine good soul. Through this evolution of him getting in trouble with the law for something that he wasn’t responsible for to now having a girlfriend and a really interesting and loving relationship and then now having the girls trust him more as before he was like the number one antagonist at one point is just really cool and neat to play that.Q. You get to work a lot with Troian Bellisario who plays Spencer, did the chemistry with the two of you come naturally?
A. I absolutely adore Troian Bellisario! I think she is like my kind of person. Our chemistry started from the second that I met her, we were really cool with each other and we would bring each other CDs. She’s just the most intellectual and really down to earth person. Her evolution as her character Spencer has been mind blowing! You take a character like that that’s just full circle to where she’s at now and you watch these episodes and she is dynamite with them all! I mean she just has this explosive nature on screen that’s really amazing. Getting to work with her is incredible because we’re very much these polar opposite characters where she’s ready to launch and go and fight, he is too, but it’s like he’s holding himself back. The chemistry between us is noticeable because there is definitely that connection. We’re really good friends and when we hang out it’s really fun. She’s my favorite person to hang out with on set and I’m around her the most. I’m really close with all of the people in the cast but I’m mostly around her for our scenes. It’s always a good time with Troian.
Q. What can you tease to us about what fans will get to see with season two?
A. The suspense is only going to build more and more throughout the run of this half season. Just reading the scripts I’m already up to the season finale and it is just so unbelievable. It is so amazing and in every episode there are so many secrets that are getting revealed and then there are new secrets that are coming up. It really draws you in. Even me, watching the show I know what’s going to happen, but I’m always shocked and stunned by the way that it is carried out on the show day with the way that it is actually shot and prepared. It’s just so, so interesting. There are definitely a lot more twists and turns, season one was like a spider web of secrets, this is like the Internet of secrets. There are so many connections that are going to be made and yet to keep up with it you’re going to really have to be there and be present in the storyline and you won’t regret it. It is kind of like the Matrix.
Q. Do you like guessing along with the viewers who “A” is?A. I do know who “A” is but I always try to put myself in the audience’s position, like who do I think “A” is now and it drives me absolutely crazy. I get it, it makes sense, but it just drives me crazy. It’s always a surprise at the end of every episode. I do know who “A” is but it is something that consistently changes. I knew who “A” was before and then it changed. It’s constantly a changing thing and who I know now that could be it could be changed as I am talking to you right now because that’s what keeps the show interesting and fresh. If everyone knew who “A” was the show would be over, or who is “B” and “C,” it wouldn’t be as interesting and mysterious as it is now.

What do you think of Allen proclaiming that he does know who ‘A’ is?
This is the first cast interview I’ve read where I’ve seen a cast member admit this! Could it be that the writers have only told some cast members? So now we have to ask ourselves, why did they tell Allen?
We want to hear your thoughts on this topic!
