Netflix continues to move forward with its host of original content, and the YA thriller 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough is the latest addition.
If you haven’t noticed lately, Netflix is sort of winning at everything (just look to Stranger Things for the latest proof), so whenever we hear of a new property being picked up by the streaming service, we can’t help but get excited.
According to Variety, Netflix has acquired the film rights to the novel and has charged Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage with developing the movie.
The synopsis for the book reads:
I was dead for 13 minutes.
I don’t remember how I ended up in the icy water but I do know this — it wasn’t an accident and I wasn’t suicidal.
They say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but when you’re a teenage girl, it’s hard to tell them apart. My friends love me, I’m sure of it. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t try to kill me. Does it?
13 MINUTES by Sarah Pinborough is a gripping psychological thriller about people, fears, manipulation and the power of the truth. A stunning read, it questions our relationships — and what we really know about the people closest to us . . .

This thriller sounds like it has a great mystery at its core and definitely gives off Pretty Little Liars vibes. Considering the attention Netflix tends to give its original content, which adds to its outstanding quality, there’s no reason to doubt this won’t be a huge hit when it finally lands.
The novel doesn’t have a ton of reviews between Amazon and Goodreads, but it does sport plenty of five stars, regardless. The built-in audience for the novel will also do wonders for spreading the word once the film is released.
