Netflix is splitting ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ season 4 into two parts

Netflix has announced they’ll be dropping Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 4 in two parts this year.

The first six episodes of season four launch on May 30, 2018, while the second half of the show will premiere “later in 2018.”

This is a big change for Netflix — until now they’ve typically released all episodes of their Original Series, especially their popular ones, all at once. This change in their release strategy is a little scary and kills our binge vibe. Are they looking to split seasons in half more often? NOOOOO.

One of the reasons Netflix quickly became a cultural phenomenon was their all-at-once release strategy. They give us amazing, brand new shows that we can watch nonstop over a weekend.

Netflix is constantly growing (they added 8.3 million new streaming subscribers in 2017) and Unbreakable is a simple, special effect-free comedy series, so it’s not clear what their thought process is here. This might be the start of a new trend to release even more content throughout the year.

But we don’t like it. Cancel this plan now, Netflix.
