Thank the Timelord: a Nexflix spokesperson has confirmed that most of the BBC’s most popular programming, including Luther and Doctor Who, will remain on the streaming service.
Last week we brought a disturbing report about the future of Netflix and the BBC’s partnership. As contract negotiations were falling through, Netflix programming watchers were revealing the service’s alleged plans to remove most of its BBC programming at the end of the month.
But false alarm! A Netflix spokeswoman has assured Variety that we won’t be losing our beloved British shows any time soon.
While Netflix still appears to be dropping some of its BBC series, it’s holding onto most of the shows which had subscribers threatening to switch streaming services.
These are the BBC shows that will be remaining on Netflix for the time being:
Note that Sherlock, Happy Valley, The Honorable Woman, and Call the Midwife will also remain on the site, but are part of a separate deal.
Netflix will be cutting a few BBC shows, however: Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, MI-5 and Red Dwarf are all expiring on Feb. 1, 2015.
Of course this still leaves several shows unaccounted for, including Merlin and Orphan Black. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
