Netflix has been axe-ing its original series right and left, starting a month ago with Sense8, then The Get Down, and now Girlboss.
What is going on over at Netflix? The Sense8 cancellation hurt royally, and while The Get Down‘s made slightly more sense (which definitely didn’t soften the blow), it still seemed rough to cancel it so soon. The newest casualty, Girlboss, seemed like a solid bet with a fun premise based on the life of Sophia Amoruso as chronicled in her book, #Girlboss.
The series, starring Britt Robertson and created by Pitch Perfect‘s Kay Cannon, had a complete 13 episode first season that debuted in late April 2017.
The show’s subject seemed to take the news well, and was not all that upset about its cancellation.
TV Guide quotes her instagram stories from this weekend, “So that Netflix series about my life got canceled. While I’m proud of the work we did, I’m looking forward to controlling my narrative from here on out,” she wrote. “It was a good show, and I was privileged to work with incredible talent, but living my life as a caricature was hard even if only for two months. Yes, I can be difficult. No, I’m not a d***. No, someone named Shane never cheated on me. It will be nice to someday tell the story of what’s happened in the last few years. Ppl read the headline, not the correction, I’ve learned.”
The creator tweeted her thanks on Sunday to those that supported the show after just mentioning to a fan that they needed more viewers if they wanted a season 2 just last week.
