Julie Murphy’s New York Times best-selling book Dumplin’ is coming to Netflix, and we finally have the first images from the film.
Netflix is bringing Julie Murphy’s well-loved novel, Dumplin’ to life in a brand new movie starring Jennifer Anniston and Danielle MacDonald, and we are so excited to see this one. Not only is this story a body-positive one with some of our favorite celebs, but the film’s soundtrack (which releases on November 30) will feature amazing new songs from the one and only Dolly Parton.
Netflix released the official poster from the film as well as some images, and we’re absolutely obsessed. The movie poster is pretty simple, featuring an image of MacDonald and Anniston, but it gives a pretty noticeable wink to the book’s original cover.
But it’s the new images from the film that really has us stoked. While the images don’t give away too much, they do give us a pretty good hint into the glamour we can expect from both Jennifer Anniston and Danielle MacDonald in this movie. Anniston looks flawless as former beauty queen Rosie Dickinson (who is rocking her tiara in both images).
But of course, while we love Jennifer Aniston, we’re here to celebrate Willowdean herself, Danielle Macdonald. Netflix released just one image of her from the flick, but we’re obsessed with this image of Willowdean completely glammed out.
Dumplin’ is a truly remarkable story, especially in the YA space, as it tells the story of a plus-sized woman who does encounter self-doubt and struggles with self-confidence (as everyone does at some point), but the trajectory of her self-discovery doesn’t lie in weight loss or conforming to a more socially acceptable form of beauty. Instead, we get to watch a fat woman onscreen come to love herself just as she is and find the confidence to be herself without changing anything external, even when faced with the intense scrutiny of entering a beauty contest.
It’s a wonderful, body-positive message, and we hope that more and more stories like this are told in books, on the big screen, and beyond.
We’re so excited for the Dumplin’ movie. The film will release on Netflix and in select theaters on December 7.
