Satisfying your need for fun and geeky goodies while also supporting small businesses and artisans? Getting your hands on a Nerdisan subscription box is truly a win-win!

About Nerdisan

Nerdisan is a monthly subscription box service that celebrates all things geek and fandom-related. But what sets Nerdisan apart from other geeky subscription box services is the fact that everything in a Nerdisan box is handmade and brought to you straight from small businesses! Not only that, but Nerdisan values small businesses and artisans so much that they pay wholesale price for each item, which allows these small business owners to keep creating fun, geeky items.

Each box contains about 4-7 items worth anywhere between $30 and $50 total. With boxes priced at $20 per month, that’s a pretty great deal (especially for handmade items). Plus, Nerdisan accepts orders placed outside of the U.S. as well as within.

The awesome thing about ordering from Nerdisan? You pick which months and fandoms you want to get! All of the boxes are stand-alones, which means you don’t have to worry about the service auto-renewing if you’re short on money one month or aren’t a fan of the next theme. The freedom to pick and choose themes is a real luxury when it comes to subscription boxes!

Nerdisan May subscription box review

It’s no secret that I love Marvel and the Avengers. It’s probably even less of a secret that Captain America is my favorite hero and that I was #TeamCap all the way for Captain America: Civil War. So when I found a subscription box that was not only Civil War-themed but also allowed me to choose #TeamCap-specific goodies, I knew I had to check it out. But, while I came for the “Captain America and Friends” theme, I stayed for the handmade aspect of the box.

When I first opened my Avengers-themed Nerdisan box, the first thing that greeted me was a list of all of the items that I’d find inside the box, as well as the talented artisans behind them. Not only that, but the box also includes a stack of all of the creators’ business cards so that I can find them after I unbox everything. I love that Nerdisan goes the extra mile with giving credit where credit’s due and supporting small business owners in any way that they can.

The first of the handmade items that immediately caught my eye was a bar of artisan soap from Sudzy Bums that features an image of Captain America in the center. I’ve just started getting into handmade soaps recently, so I’m excited to try this one out. It has a sort of clean and refreshing scent to it, almost like what you’d expect an ocean-scented soap to smell like. It’s a pretty good-sized bar, so I’ll expect it to last me quite a while!

One of the most pleasant surprises I found in my “Captain America and Friends” box was seeing Wanda Maximoff represented by one of the goodies. All too often, she’s forgotten or side-lined in favor of another member of #TeamCap. But now, thanks to my new Wanda-inspired lip balm from Nerdtastic, I can take her with me wherever I go! I really like that this homemade lip balm has a unique flavor to it. It’s in no way a generic, vanilla-like flavor. It’s star anise and peach lip balm, which means it smells sweet but has a bit of a spice to it (as does the flavor’s name, “I Put a Hex On You”). I’m going to be extra careful about keeping track of this lip balm for sure.

Another generally under-represented member of #TeamCap? Ant-Man. That’s why I was really glad to see a fun Ant-Man pouch from Geektastic Voyage included in my box. The pouch is made with a really eye-catching, all-over Ant-Man print (which actually includes Antony! [RIP]). I can see it really coming in handy for me when I’m traveling and have to take small items (especially toiletries) along with me. It’s small enough to fit in a purse, but large enough to hold quite a bit.

The rest of the items in my Nerdisan subscription box will really help me publicly display my affection (read: borderline obsession) for Captain America. I’ve been meaning to buy myself something similar to the shield decal from The Ramen Empire that I found in the box, so I’m happy that Nerdisan did my work for me! The design is simple, yet crisp. The same can be said for the “Team Cap” stamped ring from Team Neville. The band is adjustable and features a red and blue star (which I’m going to take as symbols for Steve and Bucky).

But my favorite of these #TeamCap items has to be the Captain America and Winter Soldier keychain set from Nerdy Robots. I love how the keychain uses the two characters’ logos and puts them together to create a symbol of friendship. They’re just so cute! Plus, they’re pretty lightweight and won’t weigh down my already crowded key ring. I can’t wait to give the other half of the set to my personal Bucky Barnes.

When it comes to geeky fandom treasures and goodies, handmade is definitely the way to go. All of the items in my Nerdisan subscription box have a lot of character to them (and not just because they feature some of my favorite characters). I love that I’m helping small businesses and artisans while also indulging my obsession for subscription boxes. If you’re looking for an affordable subscription box that offers unique goodies, you really need to check out Nerdisan. Their focus on handmade items really sets them apart from all of the other subscription boxes on the market.

Full disclosure: I received a free May Nerdisan subscription box in exchange for my review on the site.
