As expected, Deadline has announced that J.J. Abrams has completed all Super 8 obligations and has begun production on Star Trek 2.
What will be Abrams’ role on the project? What is the production schedule? Find out after the jump!
J.J. Abrams has indeed begun script work with collaborators Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof with the intent to begin filming in January, 2012, with Abrams intending to return to the directors seat.
Paramount has reportedly exercised all options on returning cast and crew – including Abrams. Despite this huge step towards a Trek sequel, there is currently no way that Abrams will be able to meet the current July 29, 2012 release date, with a projected late 2012 to early 2013 release.
This is no doubt an exciting development to all Trek fans, and we’ll be sure to keep you all updated on the project has production continues.
