Millie Bobby Brown will be teaming up with the Russo Brothers for her next feature film role.
According to Deadline, actress Millie Bobby Brown has joined the cast of an upcoming science fiction movie coming down the pipeline at Universal Pictures.
Titled The Electric State, the forthcoming feature film is based off of the illustrated novel of the same name by author Simon Stalenhag.
The Electric State focuses on a teenage girl (Brown) living in an alternative future who finds herself crossing paths with a strange, but sweet robot who comes to her. It’s not until later that she realizes the robot in question has actually been sent to her by her missing brother. Together, the girl and the robot venture off in search of her brother. In the end, they end up uncovering a grand conspiracy.
Millie Bobby Brown isn’t the only big name attached to the project. Behind the scenes, The Electric State is set to be directed and produced by Avengers: Endgame vets Anthony and Joe Russo.
In a statement announcing the project, the Russo Brothers stressed the idea that they envision the forthcoming sci-fi adaptation to have a traditional theatrical release. That the directors made it a point to specify the latter specifically is especially notable given that Universal is one of the many studios looking to close the theatrical exclusivity window in light of theater closures due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“We’re thrilled to have this deal with Universal who has committed to a theatrical release of ‘Electric State.’ This is incredible news for us as filmmakers, and for audiences around the world who want an opportunity to experience films in theaters again,” said the Russo Brothers. “This is also a positive sign that, as vaccines become available, the theatrical market is returning.”
Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect to The Electric State starring Millie Bobby Brown hit the big screen.
The book’s official synopsis reads:
“In late 1997, a runaway teenager and her small yellow toy robot travel west through a strange American landscape where the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside, along with the discarded trash of a high-tech consumerist society addicted to a virtual-reality system. As they approach the edge of the continent, the world outside the car window seems to unravel at an ever faster pace, as if somewhere beyond the horizon, the hollow core of civilization has finally caved in.”
Brown and the Russo Brothers have seemed to have selected an exciting project, as the book averages a 5-star rating on Amazon.
