Meryl Streep is gearing up to lend her voice to one of the most beloved children’s books of all time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award winner Meryl Streep has officially signed on to lend her voice to a brand new audio book edition of Charlotte’s Web.
The rerecording, which hails from Penguin Random House Audio’s Listening Library, marks the first time Charlotte’s Web will have been recorded in audiobook form since author E.B. White first recorded the narration for the novel almost 50 years ago.
Meryl Streep isn’t the only one who’ll be lending her voice to the new recording of the 1953 Newbery Honor Book.
In fact, the newest audiobook recording of the children’s classic will use an ensemble cast of over 20 different audiobook narrators to bring the tale of Wilbur, Charlotte, and the rest of the inhabitants of Homer Zuckerman’s farm to life.
Other veteran narrators set to join Streep in the new recording include January LaVoy who will play Charlotte the spider, Kirby Heyborne who will give voice to Wilbur the pig, and MacLeod Andrews who will play Templeton the rat.
As for Streep, she’ll be serving as the narrator of the story.
Originally published on October 15, 1952, Charlotte’s Web tells the story of a pig named Wilbur who is originally given to a little girl named Fern after he’s born the runt of the litter.
As soon as Wilbur grows, Fern’s father sells him to her uncle, Homer Zuckerman who intends to raise Wilbur as a pig for slaughter. Fortunately for Wilbur, he’s befriended by a barn spider named Charlotte who lives on Homer’s farm and soon, Charlotte hatches a plan to keep Wilbur save and save him from the slaughterhouse.
Listening Library’s new audio book recording of Charlotte’s Web, featuring Meryl Streep, is set to be available for download on October 29.
