Colin Morgan and Bradley James ponder a question many Merlin fans have probably wondered over the years: Why isn’t it Arthur?
As part of the Merlin publicity team’s advent calendar, a short video interview with James and Morgan has been put online. In this one, the actors talk about why the series isn’t called Arthur:
Considering that Merlin is the lead character, it has often been noted by fans that a lot of the show’s plot hinges on Arthur’s decisions and development. And as the end of the series approaches the question on everyone’s minds is: will Arthur die?
In the video, James very unequivocally says yes, the show should have been called Arthur; “I’ve always said this.” But he would say that, wouldn’t he?!
“But once they made that mistake early on, they couldn’t really, you know, go back,” he jokes (or, he says in a deadly serious tone).
So what say you, Merlin fans? Is Bradley James right?! Surely not! Give us your best arguments for why the show is rightfully named Merlin – or why you think it actually should have been Arthur – in the comments!
Or better yet – why not Merlin & Arthur? That’s possibly what we’re naming our imaginary Merlin reincarnation spin-off series.
Merlin is back Saturday with the episode “The Drawing of the Dark.”
