If you have friends who love the classic Lindsay Lohan era (read: any point before her melt down), chances are today you saw them tweeting and Facebook-ing up a storm with a particular line from 2004’s Mean Girls.
“On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was” is a line that resonates with the movie’s most hardcore fans today for obvious reasons. You may’ve seen the quote, or a simple “It’s October 3rd!!” message plastering social media networks and didn’t know why. That’s why we’re here.
We can’t say we remember this meme appearing on the internet so feverishly in years past, but you can see the origins of this seemingly legendary line in the video below:
Mean Girls fans shared their excitement on Twitter:

But not everyone understands the hype:
But wasn’t it October 3rd LAST year, and didn’t Mean Girls come out a million years ago? Why THIS year is it a thing?

I can honestly say i’ve never seen mean girls, so this “national day” thing is kind of dumb.

Here are some other Mean Girls quotes that aren’t so time sensitive:
“I’m sorry that people are so jealous of me… but I can’t help it that I’m so popular.”
“Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen! It’s not going to happen!”
“You smell like a baby prostitute.”
“Gretchen, I’m sorry I laughed at you that time you got diarrhea at Barnes & Nobles.”
