Marvel’s Most Wanted is moving into production, bringing the Mockingbird/Hunter spinoff one step closer to your television.
According to ABC President Paul Lee, the network is optimistic about the series, which they are categorizing as a spinoff of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
“We love the script,” he says. “We think it’s going to be great.”
Most Wanted is set to star Adrianne Palicki as super-spy Mockingbird and Nick Blood as her on-again, ex-mercenary ex-husband. It’s still unknown if the show will split off from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the form of a back-door pilot, or use another device to send Bobbi Morse and Hunter off on new adventures.
ABC and Marvel clearly have ideas in mind, however. Lee promised reporters at today’s TCA meetings that the Most Wanted pilot will be filmed “in the next few months.”
Certainly, Marvel’s Most Wanted has enough pedigree from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to launch relatively seamlessly. The new series will be helmed by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. writers and executive producers Jeff Bell and Paul Zbyszewski, and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb will add Most Wanted to his teeming list of executive producer credits.
With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. currently on winter hiatus, it’s hard to guess exactly what might propel Bobbi and Hunter out of the fold of their dysfunctional-but-tight-knit organization. Still, whatever the circumstances of their departure, it’s likely to veer on the dramatic side.
In addition to his optimism for Most Wanted, Paul Lee also appears to have a positive outlook on the rest of Marvel’s work at ABC. On the subject of series renewals, Lee was oblique, but positive. “I can’t speak to what happens beyond May,” he says. “but I’m feeling good about S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 returns on March 8.
