Production on Star Wars IX began today and there’s one very important member of the family missing.
It was previously announced that the tragically deceased Carrie Fisher would be posthumously reprising her role as Leia in Star Wars IX. As production begins on the latest chapter of the saga, Mark Hamill tweeted both his appreciation and his thoughts, saying the he was glad his former costar “wouldn’t be replaced.”
It's bittersweet facing my final chapter without her-She is simply irreplaceable. I'm finding solace in the fact that she won't BE replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news.#CarrieOnForever pic.twitter.com/7ueMqBxQwa

Mark Hamill will also be returning for the grand finale of the trilogy, despite his character’s death in The Last Jedi. Many fans are speculating that his character will return as a “Force ghost.”
Star Wars: Episode IX will be in theaters in December 2019.
