Things aren’t looking good for Michael Fassbender’s Magneto in this new image from X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Dark Phoenix doesn’t hit theaters until November 2018, but images from the film have been slowly releasing to get us hyped. While most of the stills focused on Professor Xavier and his “gifted youngsters,” the newest image, seen in the latest issue of Empire, gives us a glimpse at how Magneto (also known as Erik Lehnscherr) is faring in the movie.

There aren’t a lot of details surrounding what is happening to Magneto in this image. However, it looks like things are going less than stellar for the troubled mutant.
Of course, the focus of X-Men: Dark Phoenix will not be on Magneto. The film takes place in the ’90s, and will focus more specifically on Jean Grey’s transformation to Dark Phoenix. The basic Dark Phoenix arc tells of Jean Grey’s (Sophie Turner) powers evolving in such a way to make her incredibly powerful incredibly quickly, and how that journey corrupts Jean.
In the film X2: X-Men United, starring Famke Janssen as Jean Grey, they attempted to begin the Dark Phoenix arc. However, much of it was ultimately swallowed up by the other storylines competing for attention in the crowded film X-Men: The Last Stand. The writer, director, and producer of Dark Phoenix hopes to properly tell Jean Grey’s story this time.
The latest issue of Empire is out now, and you can pick yours up to see exclusive new images from X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The film hits theaters on November 2, 2018.
