We’re already excited for the Lizzie McGuire revival, but we really hope it includes these 5 things.
Ever since it was announced that Disney + would be launching a revival of one of our most beloved childhood series’, Lizzie McGuire, starring Hilary Duff, we’ve been dreaming about what a more grown up version of the show could look like.
We already know a few things about the series thanks to the Disney + presentation at D23. The new and improved Lizzie McGuire will see a 30 year old Lizzie living in New York. She has her dream job as an interior designer’s apprentice and is engaged to a chef (*sigh* not Gordo).
We can’t wait to see what an older and wiser Lizzie McGuire has to offer, but there are a few things from the original series that we would still like to see. Here are 5 must haves for the Lizzie McGuire revival!
The ‘Lizzie McGuire’ fashion
One of the highlights of Lizzie McGuire when it aired back in 2001 was the outrageous fashion choices that Lizzie and her best friend Miranda made. The two of them definitely had style in spades and never met a color/pattern/fabric combo, hairstyle, butterfly clip, or accessory that they wouldn’t try.
Since Lizzie is working as an interior designer in her adult life, we’re assuming her fashion will be just as artful and bold, but likely a little more refined and modern. She was always been unapologetically herself when it came to her clothes, and we’re dying to see what that means for her as an adult, especially as a professional woman.
Music
Music wasn’t really a part of the Lizzie McGuire series we loved as kids, but it did make a big appearance in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, when Lizzie was mistaken for an Italian pop star. You know, because that happens.
On top of that, Hilary Duff had an iconic pop career, back in the day. Hello, Santa Claus Lane and So Yesterday! We think it’d be really fun if they added a musical element to the Lizzie McGuire revival. It’s cool if it’s just a random karaoke night, but we definitely wouldn’t say no to some new Hilary Duff jams to add to our playlists.
Her family
Lizzie’s parents were so delightfully quirky, but also incredibly warm and caring. They helped Lizzie through some of the toughest moments of her pre-teen life, so we’re hoping they’ll be able to make some appearances to help her out in adulthood, too.
In the original Lizzie McGuire series, Matt was the perfect annoying little brother, but now that Lizzie and Matt are all grown up, it would be so cute to see them have a friendly and loving sibling relationship, with just a hint of their former bickering.
Besides Hilary Duff, none of the original actors have been confirmed for the revival, but Duff did allude to the fact that quite a few of them would make appearances. Here’s hoping her family are among them.
Her friends
Lizzie had a pretty tight family, but her friendships with Miranda and Gordo were equally important relationships in her life. The two supporting characters were absolutely integral to the show, and it wouldn’t feel right if they weren’t involved.
Lizzie and Gordo finally ignited their slow burn relationship in The Lizzie McGuire Movie. It was obviously amazing and took way too long to happen, but we’re hoping that their romantic relationship didn’t complicate things to the point where they’re not friends anymore. We know Lizzie is engaged to someone else, but the three of them were so close we can’t imagine that they’d have lost all contact. At least, we really, really hope not.
Besides her best friends, it would also be cool to see appearances from Kate and Ethan in the revival, since they were both huge players in the original series. We’d love to see where they are now!
Cartoon Lizzie
Luckily, it was confirmed at the D23 panel that cartoon Lizzie would be a part of the Lizzie McGuire revival, and she’ll be wearing the same pink crop top and pants that we’ve always seen her in!
We love this, not only because it means that the super honest, overdramatic version of Lizzie will be coming back to our screens, but also because it means that girl is still a part of who Lizzie is. As much as we pretend to “mature” as we grow up, that 13 year old girl is still in there somewhere, screaming about how impossibly awkward we are.
