It’s crunch time on The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, with only four episodes to go. Here are the top 4 things we want to see before our favourite web series wraps up.
The Lizzie Bennet Diaries will end on Thursday 28 March with Episode 100, and that means that there are only four episodes to go. If we are going by Pride and Prejudice, Darcy still has to visit, Lizzie and Darcy need to go on an awkward stroll with Kitty, before Lizzie says thank you, Darcy reiterates his proposal, and Lizzie accepts. In the Lizzie Bennet Diaries universe, this roughly translates to a visit from Darcy, an awkward date with the cat, one big kiss, and lots of teasing.
The series may be wrapped, but if we want to write a wishlist, then we are going to write a wishlist. Here are the 4 things we demand would like to see in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries before it is all over.
4. Costume theatre, one last time
The costume theatre element has been such a huge part of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Unfortunately for our wishlist, Episode 96 did seem like it may be the last gasp in costume theatre, as Lizzie rushed through her impersonations of Jane, Fitz, Gigi, Charlotte and herself. What we really want to see is Lizzie’s impression of Darcy, even for a single second until she realizes that she can’t do it anymore, and why.
It makes sense to the story that as Lizzie becomes more honest about her own feelings, she would be less inclined to share them through the guise of impersonating someone else. That doesn’t mean that no one else can do it (we’re looking at you, Charlotte Lu and Lydia Bennet). It would be great to have one final scene of costume theatre, with or without Lizzie, preferably performed by secondary characters who show us something Lizzie may be reluctant to talk about (ahem, Dizzie).
3. Supporting character conclusions
It’s no secret that here on Hypable we are big, big fans of the Lizzie Bennet Diaries supporting characters (there’s even a whole separate column about our favourites). While we understand that at this point, it is really Lizzie’s story, there are several characters who we wish would get some kind of final conclusion. At the top of our list is the wonderful Mary, who we would love to see appear once more with Lydia.
A close second is Charlotte – who would be better to tell Lizzie “I told you so” once she gets her Dizzie on. Speaking of Dizzie, we demand to see some kind of reaction to their inevitable kiss from the hilarious Team Figi, and a furious Caroline Lee. And we would kill for a Lizzie/Lydia-Wickham showdown, but that’s probably stretching the realms of possibility. There’s only so much time in four episodes, but both for the fans and the characters, we hope to see some closure.
2. One more Lydia vlog
In the hands of these creators, Lydia somehow went from annoying little sister to beloved and standout supporting character. Deep down we realize that Episode 94 was probably all the farewell that Lydia will be getting, but a little denial won’t kill us. It makes us so sad that the final vlog on Lydia’s spinoff channel will always be “Good Enough.” We would love one final The Lydia Bennet episode, in which Lydia reclaims her channel for herself.
Lydia’s character has gone through a huge development, and we don’t want to discount that – but we honestly believe that one more vlog would make sense to the story. Don’t let Wickham-gate get the last word, show her as her new self (preferably with Mary, who we adore). And hey, The Lydia Bennet writer Rachel Kiley reintroduced in February a tumblr petition from last year, and in March answered a tumblr question regarding this, and actress Mary Kate Wiles said that she would like to do more when she spoke to Hypable, so there’s hope.
1. The Dizzie kiss
As far as we are concerned, this is really numbers 1 through 1 million. Lydia has had her moment (although we may wish that she hadn’t), and now so has Jane. But forget about them, this is the Lizzie and Darcy show and we have sat through agonizing and sexually fraught video after video. We want to see some action! Sure, Lizzie and Darcy must be close to the most awkward pair on the planet, but underneath that we know Lizzie is dying to grab him by the suspenders.
Of course, there is no way the series could possibly end without a huge Dizzie moment. From Episode 60 onwards, this has been the endgame for the show, and we can pretty much guarantee that when we finally see it, tumblr will explode. The only question is, how many more videos will we have to sit through, gritting our teeth to stop ourselves from yelling at Lizzie to “Just kiss him already!”, before it finally, gloriously happens.
