New ‘Lion King’ trailer is breathtakingly beautiful

We’ve officially hit 100 days until The Lion King opens in theaters, and Disney is celebrating by releasing a gorgeous new trailer.

Disney hasn’t wasted any time pumping out live-action versions of some of their most beloved cartoons. And while there have been some truly amazing live-action remakes released by Disney, none of them have had a cast as jam-packed with talent as The Lion King. With a cast filled with people like Donald Glover, Beyonce, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Billy Eichner, Alfre Woodard, Seth Rogen, and James Earl Jones (and those are just a few of the actors in this stacked cast), this movie promises to be spectacular.

Before now, we hadn’t seen a great look into the film. Disney had released a few trailers meant to mimic trailers for the original cartoon, but they played a lot to nostalgia rather than giving us a great look into what this new film had in store for us. Finally, Disney has given us a new, full-length trailer that gives us a great peek into the Jon Favreau-helmed pic.

If you were maybe feeling tired of these live-action remakes or skeptical if this new take on The Lion King would be for you, this trailer hopefully took care of those concerns. Not only does the movie look like it will be a sweet tribute to the original film, but it also looks like it will tell the story in a way that will feel fresh and new to those of us who grew up with this story and kids meeting Simba for the first time.

And if there one thing that this trailer teaches us, it’s that The Lion King is going to be an absolutely beautiful film to see on screen. The animals are vibrant and gorgeous, and the landscape will absolutely take your breath away. Favreau has utilized some truly pioneering filmmaking techniques for this film to bring the animals, the African savanna, and the actors together onscreen in a way that is truly amazing.

We’re officially 100 days out from The Lion King’s theatrical premiere, and we just cannot wait. The movie opens in theaters everywhere on July 19.
