A tantalizing report is out thanks to The Daily Mail: Les Miserables‘ movie cast appears to be preparing a performance for the 2013 Academy Awards!
Word came down the pipeline thanks to star Samantha Barks (Eponine) who reportedly received a few days off from the touring production of Oliver! so she can be in Hollywood for the prestigious.
Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfriend, “and others” are said to be set to be a part of the performance. The Daily Mail believes they’ll take on either “One Day More” or “Do You Hear The People Sing” – both rousing group ensembles that could stir the Dolby Theater.
Even more interesting: There are rumors of a medley being considered, with Hathaway performing an excerpt from “I Dreamed A Dream.”
No matter what the Les Miserables cast sings, it’s not the only highly-anticipated live act. Adele is expected to perform “Skyfall,” which she won a Golden Globe for this past Sunday.
Which song do you think the Les Miserables cast should perform? We think it’d be a bad idea for Hathaway to do any part of “I Dreamed A Dream” because the bar would be set very, very high. If it went wrong live, the image of her brilliant performance within the film would be slightly hurt. A group ensemble is a safe yet powerful choice because the weight is not put on any one star’s shoulders.
If they do indeed perform, we’ll be sure to bring you video. Les Miserables is nominated in eight categories at the 2013 Academy Awards.
