Former Pitch and When They See Us star Kylie Bunbury has landed her next starring role in David E. Kelley’s straight-to-series drama Big Sky.
Kylie Bunbury will be joining previously announced leads Katheryn Winnick and Ryan Phillippe, along with fellow castmates John Carroll Lynch, Dedee Pfeiffer and Brian Geraghty.
Big Sky, based on the book The Highway by C.J. Box, is a police procedural thriller that centers on private detective Cassie Dewell. Dewell partners with ex-cop Jenny Hoyt on a search for two sisters who have been kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote highway in Montana. However, when they discover that these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, they must race against the clock to stop the killer before another woman is taken.
Kylie Bunbury plays Detective Cassie Dewell, an ex-rodeo driver turned junior private detective, with Katheryn Winnick playing ex-cop Jenny Hoyt. Ryan Phillippe plays Cody Hoyt, the senior partner at the PI firm of Hoyt and Dewell and Jenny’s ex. It’s currently unknown who the other announced cast members are playing.
David E. Kelley will serve as writer and producer for Big Sky, which was awarded a rare straight-to-series order from ABC. Though given Kelley’s recent success with HBO’s Big Little Lies and track record of shows that includes Ally McBeal, The Practice, and L.A. Law , it makes sense that ABC would show confidence in the writer/producer.
Kylie Bunbury is probably best known for her breakout role in the underrated, gone-too-soon Fox TV show Pitch in 2016, in which she starred opposite Mark-Paul Gosselaar. She also previously starred in shows like Under the Dome at CBS and ABC Family’s (now Freeform) Twisted. She appeared in Ava DuVernay’s Emmy-winning Netflix limited series When They See Us, and will also be seen in the upcoming Brave New World series at Peacock.
