Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie Bennett on The Vampire Diaries, has announced that the eighth season of the show will be her last.
The woman responsible for bringing Mystic Falls’ resident witch to life told US weekly at the iHeartRadio Music Awards that she will only be sticking with The Vampire Diaries for one more season.
“Season 8 will be my last season,” Kat said of her departure. She expressed her desire to continue working with the crew of the show, although made no comments about the cast. She is known to have a good relationship with at least Ian Somerhalder, so it probably doesn’t mean anything, but is a little suspicious.
Good news for the rest of The Vampire Diaries season 7 is that she also stated: “There’s some really intense stuff with my character this season. I think the biggest episodes I’ve ever had are [season 7, episode] 20 and 21. It’s pretty major for the character — huge turns, a lot of stunts and cool s–t!”
Bonnie has been a fan favorite character throughout the entire run of The Vampire Diaries, but especially since Nina Dobrev’s departure at the end of season 6. Many fans tune in only to watch her characters’ growing friendship/potential relationship with Damon Salvatore, so this will be a huge loss for the show. That is, if the show even continues past season 8, which is always up in the air! Many fans are calling for it to end sooner rather than later.
The big question is, what will happen with Elena if the show continues past Bonnie’s departure? Their lives are linked, so if Bonnie dies, Elena will have to come back! There could be something in the works with Nina Dobrev behind the scenes, but it’s more likely that Bonnie will simply leave town, rather than die.
