Vampire Diaries vet Julie Plec is heading to Universal TV.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer, producer, and showrunner Julie Plec— best known for churning out hits on The CW like The Vampire Diaries and The Originals— has inked a new overall deal with Universal TV.

The new move finds Plec switching over from Warner Bros. TV, where she’s been creating hit original titles for quite some time now.

Sources say that Plec signed with Universal TV after months of speaking with multiple studios and streamers— including Netflix. Reportedly, Plec’s new multi-year deal with the studio is valued at upwards of $60 million.

In a statement announcing the news, Julie Plec touched on why she felt as though Universal TV was the right fit for her as a creator.

“I’m thrilled to embark on a new journey with [Universal TV president Pearlena Igobkwe] and the group of extraordinary women who are ruling the world at Universal Television. They’ve made it abundantly clear just how much opportunity there is at the studio right now, with the launch of Peacock and their active relationships with the other streamers, not to mention the broadcast opportunities,” said Plec.

“I love making television that is both thrilling and emotionally powerful, and I look forward to the adventure ahead at my new home.”

In addition, Plec also noted that just because she’s found a new home with Universal TV, doesn’t mean that her multi-year deal will affect the shows she’s currently apart of at Warner Bros., TV.

“I am also grateful for my current home, WBTV,” continued Plec. “And look forward to continuing to nourish the shows we happily built together over the last decade.”

We’ll be looking forward to seeing what new original titles Julie Plec brings us as part of her new deal with Universal TV!
