Briefly: Here’s some cross-fandom love to get excited about! Former Glee cast member (and best friend to Lea Michele) Jonathan Groff and Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch will play lovers in an upcoming HBO film.
Directed and executive produced by Glee creator Ryan Murphy, The Normal Heart “is based on Larry Kramer’s Tony-winning play, which chronicles the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s,” according to TV Line.
Groff will play Craig, “an early victim of the disease and the first lover of Bruce Niles,” who is played by Kitsch. The character of Bruce is “a closeted banker who becomes a big-time AIDS activist.”
Due for a premiere on HBO next year, The Normal Heart has a stellar cast lined up outside the two male leads. Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers), Matt Bomer (White Collar) and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) are also set for roles.
