Tickets for J.K. Rowling’s New York City Casual Vacancy Q&A and signing went on sale Monday. It is Rowling’s only public event in the United States.
So how do you get tickets for her Casual Vacancy Q&A and signing, to be held October 16 at New York City’s Lincoln Jazz Center? You can visit their box office, call (212-721-6500), or use their website.
Tickets had (accidentally?) went on sale 12 hours early on the Lincoln Center’s website and took roughly one hour to sell out. Despite this, fans lined up at the box office were able to get tickets at 10 AM Monday. We think the theater held tickets for each type of purchasing method to ensure that no one way used them all up.
UPDATE 3 (10 PM ET, September 10): Lincoln Center issued a statement admitting to the glitch in their online ticketing system. It sounds as if tickets were over-sold, and the venue says it is investigating what possible arrangements can be made “to honor each ticket purchased.” Read more HERE.
UPDATE 2 (7 PM ET, September 10): A local New York outlet spoke with someone at the box office who says that the tickets purchased online last night will NOT be honored. We aren’t saying this is 100% certain yet until we hear directly from Little Brown. We heard from the publisher’s director of publicity this morning who insisted tickets weren’t being sold (prior to 10 AM ET) and our information was “incorrect.” We’ve requested follow ups for an official statement and have yet to hear back by phone or e-mail. Now for positive news: Center Charge for JALC (who’s handling ticket orders) has confirmed purchases from last night. Tickets are in the system and charged for.
UPDATE: Casual Vacancy publisher Little, Brown confirms that tickets are now entirely sold out.
The theater only holds 1,100 people, so it will be a very special event.
So far, Rowling has twelve publicity events scheduled. She will make four television appearances in the United States and participate in two print interviews. You can see a complete list of events in our Casual Vacancy Hub.

Thanks to Hypable reader @BriannaOhara for sharing with us this photo from the box office line which has been growing for days:
Described as “blackly comic” and “thought-provoking,” The Casual Vacancy follows the small town of Pagford after an empty seat is left by Barry Fairbrother on the parish council. The open position “becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.” Asks the publisher, “Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?”
